In the modern world, it is easy to create fabricated videos and photos of UFOs. Fortunately, this type of technology did not exist centuries ago which means that the historical evidence of UFOs and extraterrestrial found in the ancient caves and wall paintings can be considered the best place to look for alien life. There are several UFO incidents recorded in human history that are still baffling UFO researchers. Did our ancestors really see something unnatural in the sky?
On August 18, 1783, a luminous object was seen in the sky at around 9:45 PM by four witnesses from the terrace of Windsor Castle in the English county of Berkshire. Many people across the English county claimed to have seen it, but the seven witnesses who were present at the Castle to document the incident were: Thomas Sandby, a founder of the Royal Academy, his brother Paul, Tiberius Cavallo, Dr. James Lind, Dr. Lockman, and two unknown women.
The uncanny view was captured in the painting that was produced by Thomas and his brother Paul Sandby. What the witnesses saw was flashes of light on the northern horizon followed by a roundish shiny object. It was sized as half the width of the moon. It started off still, but then began to move and became brighter. The sighting was recorded the following year in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society (1784), who relates what the witnesses observed:
“An oblong cloud moving more or less parallel to the horizon. Under this cloud could be seen a luminous object which soon became spherical, brilliantly lit, which came to a halt; this strange sphere seemed at first to be pale blue in color but then its luminosity increased and soon it set off again towards the East. Then the object changed direction and moved parallel to the horizon before disappearing to the South-East; the light it gave out was prodigious; it lit us everything on the ground.”

Tiberius Cavallo wrote: “It is certain of between 9.15 pm and 9.30 pm that night a very bright meteor, having entered the earth’s atmosphere over the open waters of the North Sea, passed along the whole eastern coast of northern Scotland and England.” Of course, in 1783, no one ever heard of an extraterrestrial UFO craft.
There are also reports that in 10 minutes, the witnesses from Shetland to Brussels saw the luminous bright spherical object turned into an egg shape and repeatedly changed between the two shapes. Besides, people from all around Britain assumed that the object was traveling at a speed of 20 miles per second, while some guessed it could have been even more.
It should be noted that with available knowledge, the people of that time thought it was a very rare bright meteor. Meanwhile, other circumstances such as the object stopped changed color or brightness, and also changed direction were not taken into account. Additionally, skepticism occurs as no crater was located in the area.
Many people believe that the Windsor Castle sighting was the first UFO ever seen in the sky, but there are other remarkable events that had occurred before it. For example, according to the NASA document (ID 19680018720) entitled “Chronological Catalog of Reported Lunar Events,” Colonial Preacher Cotton Mather saw a UFO on the Lunar surface in November 1668. Mather said that while looking at the Moon through his telescope, he surprisingly saw a flying object on the dark side of the Moon. What’s more, the remarkable Nuremberg UFO sighting that occurred on April 14, 1561, is still the earliest sighting with horrific details.
