Harvard Professor Avi Loeb is one of the highly qualified persons that adds credibility to UFO research. He assures that his Galileo Project will have transparency in sharing its progress with the public and nothing will be classified. He states that by 2023, the Galileo Project will publish all its data on natural, artificial, and extraterrestrial objects.
Dr. Loeb is the first astronomer who challenged the whole scientific community by presenting his compelling data in believing that there are interstellar objects on Earth and the Solar system that might have an extraterrestrial origin.
He has recently announced that they just received full funding for the Galileo Project expedition to scoop the fragments of the first interstellar meteor (IM1), “CNEOS 2014–01–08,” that landed in the Pacific Ocean bottom near Papua New Guinea (PNG). Dr. Loeb did not reveal the name of the funders but he did say that he received financial support from wealthy donors. (The project appears to be connected to the Laukien Science Foundation, spearheaded by billionaire Frank Laukien and William A. Linton of the biotech firm Promega Corporation and the Usona Institute)
Avi Loeb Inspiration
So what inspired Dr. Loeb to start the Galileo Project? The answer is in the scientific data he collected during the three space-related events: CNEOS 2014–01–08, “Oumuamua” & an interstellar comet. The first two objects are completely outliners, as Dr. Loeb said. He is positive about the extraterrestrial origin of the first two interstellar objects as the data he received on them is weird in the history of astronomy.
“There are two general possibilities. Either IM1 is of new natural origin, or it is artificial, produced by an extraterrestrial technological civilization. Regarding the first possibility, X-ray imaging of the Vela supernova remnant revealed bow shocks from bullets flying out of the explosion site, a discovery I attempted to explain three decades ago. It is possible that IM1 was a small bullet tougher than conventional iron meteorites, shot out of an exploding star.
But it is also possible that it was a spacecraft, a billion-year-old equivalent of our interstellar probes. Just imagine a spacecraft like Voyager 1 & 2, Pioneer 10 & 11 or New Horizons, crashing onto a habitable exo-planet and burning up in its atmosphere. The exo-scientists on this exo-planet would regard the resulting exo-meteor as space trash. However, if they are curious enough to examine the composition of its fragments, they would realize that it was artificial in origin.” (Source)
The object that Dr. Loeb is searching for, designated CNEOS 2014-01-08, was detected in 2014 by a network of satellites used to monitor the skies for potentially dangerous asteroids. Using data published by NASA, Loeb and Amir Siraj, then a Harvard University undergraduate studying astrophysics, first suggested the object came from outside our solar system in 2019. (Source
“It moved very fast, roughly 40 kilometers per second when it exploded in the lower atmosphere,” Dr. Loeb said. “And from that, we can infer that it was moving much too fast to be bound to the sun.”

At first, the scientific paper on the meteor submitted by Dr. Loeb and Siraj was rejected because their data was incomplete. But in April 2022, a memo published by U.S. Space Command seemed to confirm that the object came from another star system.

He said that testing the composition of the object could determine if it resembles those found in our solar system. “There is also the possibility that it will be made of some alloy that nature doesn’t put together, and that would imply the object is technological,” Loeb explained. “If you ask what my wish is, if it’s indeed of artificial origin, and there was some component of the object that survived, and if it has any buttons on it, I would love to press them.”
Dr. Loeb has been a controversial scientist for his statements and has got a lot of criticism from other astronomers. But he is determined to find more data that he believes might reveal that some objects in our star system are not natural, possibly artifacts from an extraterrestrial civilization.
Galileo Project UFO Data
The announcement of the Galileo Project came shortly after the Pentagon made public its UFO footages in 2021. At the time, Dr. Loeb said: “What we see in our sky is not something that politicians or military personnel should interpret, because they were not trained as scientists, it’s for the science community to figure out.”
Dr. Loeb believed that the discovery of equipment from extraterrestrial civilizations would have a profound impact on humanity. His Galileo Project will search for such relics near Earth.
In his recent interview with Curt Jaimungal from TOE, Dr. Loeb confirmed that the Galileo Project began testing a suite of instruments that would observe that sky and analyze the data with artificial intelligence algorithms.
He further stated that “hopefully by 2023, we’ll start collecting data at places where there are reports on these [UAP] objects. That’s the third branch of the Galileo projects, we’re already doing this research and we should see it’s a phishing Expedition.”
On November 10, 2021, Dr. Loeb attended The Ignatius Forum at the Washington National Cathedral along with Jeff Bezos, Bill Nelson, and Avril Haines, the Director of National Intelligence. He had an opportunity to ask Haines about her thoughts on the nature of UAPs, to which she unhesitatingly replied that she does not know.

The Harward professor is not pleased with the government’s work on the phenomena and urges scientists to engage in these activities. “Because the sky is not classified, it’s only the sensors that the government is using that are classified and that’s why the data is classified. So the Galileo Project will try to establish a data stream that is open to the public, the way science is done. Everyone will be able to access the data and it will be of high quality.”
In January 2021, Dr. Loeb released the book Extraterrestrial: The First Sign of Intelligent Life Beyond Earth. In it, he doubles down on his statements of Oumuamua as an artificial extraterrestrial object. In June, he explicitly connected his Oumuamua hypothesis to the burgeoning government investigations into unidentified aerial phenomena in a Scientific American opinion column.
