There is no definite answer to the question “When did the UFO sightings begin?” They are historical accounts for seeing the objects in the sky (on and outside Earth). According to modern UFO research, the sightings started to hurdle and interfere in military activities during World War II. Lieutenant-Colonel Bob Walker-Brown had a series of events when he saw a UFO at a NASA (then NACA) open house and also captured one while flying at 12,000 feet.
Bob Walker-Brown testified at Sirius Disclosure that once when he was the second lieutenant in the Regular Army at Langley field (NASA’s oldest field center) then regulated by NACA, he heard a swishing noise at around 7:30 or 8 o’clock that was totally unique and strange. He correlated that noise with the jet-propelled Foo fighters in Germany.
After the war was over, the US army brought several things from overseas. Walker-Brown said during the same period, they brought a German u-boat to Fort Monroe Army Base in Virginia (it was deactivated in 2011). During the same time, NACA had an open house and one weekend, he headed over to NACA’s wind tunnels and staggered to see a flying saucer. He described it as around 30-35 feet in diameter and four or five feet in depth and thickness.
When Langley was formed, the United States was far behind Europe in aeronautical technology, and Langley’s first wind tunnel housed in Building 60 was essentially a replica of a 10-year-old British wind tunnel. The Langley tunnel, known as the 5-Foot Atmospheric Wind Tunnel, was virtually obsolete even before it began operations.
“I got as close to it as maybe ten feet and it was on a pedestal that was prompt up and I thought that is a strange craft and this is before the UFO interest began developing but this had been brought back from Germany and it was in the wind tunnel. I could say you know average pilot could get in as to how it was propelled I don’t know I don’t remember seeing exhausts there were no propellers you know it wasn’t one of those lighter than air craft by any means there was no visible means of propulsion,” Walker-Brown said.

One afternoon, Bob was flying at 2,000 feet and happened to catch the transmission from the radio tower. But it was not for him. When he monitored the transmission, he saw a flying saucer coming from the west. He estimated that the UFO was probably at an altitude not less than 50,000 feet.
He alerted the tower about the coming UFO and asked their permission to fly up and look at it. They said him to go ahead, and Walker-Brown was at 12,000 feet within several minutes. He was carrying his camera and took a number of shots on 35-millimeter film.
Walker-Brown further said: “I asked what happened and they[tower] said well they had alerted the fighters at Langley to go up and take a look at what it was and by the time they could get scrambled and get in the air and get to that altitude it’s gone.”
After the incident, he took his film to the photo lab of his station. He gave it to the photographer who was his friend, and he developed the film. Lieutenant-Colonel described that the silver ball was perfectly visible in the photos. On magnification, the disc more looked like a cigar-shaped object. “I didn’t make it known to anybody but somehow somebody knew I had it and I got a call probably about six-eight weeks later and they said we’re into this area of gathering information on possible UFOs.” He loaned those photos to them without even knowing their credentials. He later even visited those people in Richmond and discussed some news he collected over years about the flying saucers. Unfortunately, he lost the original prints of the photos, but Walker-Brown clearly remembered the scene of the large disc that was visible from many miles.
During his interview with the Director of NASA at Langley, he was asked his opinion about UFOs and other phenomena. “We were talking about different aircraft and UFOs and we were kind of blending a subject in together very nicely and I said you know what about aircraft in the future of what are they going to be like and he said we have aircraft now he said we have vehicles or aircraft now that we could actually fly but they are so unique and so unorthodox not conventional. I guess he’s referring to the fact no rudder no tail no wings.”
In his testimony, Walker-Brown also discussed the Kelly-Hopkinsville UFO encounter that occurred to the farm family known as the Suttons in 1955. He was stationed at Fort Knox Kentucky. He spoke of a time when he happened into a diner late at night near Ft. Campbell in Kentucky and over-heard conversations from MPs about how a flying saucer had landed next to a nearby farmhouse and the MP’s were there cordoning off the area. Creatures were present and were shot at by the frightened farmhouse owner.
